Landscape Maintenance Career Path

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Landscape Maintenance Technician
– Provide lawn care duties such as mowing, trimming edges, cleaning up refuse and blow trimmings, and fertilization.
– Pruning shrubs as well as weed removal.
– Develop an understanding of the various types of landscape maintenance.
– Operate various tools and small equipment needed for the specific project scope.
– Willingness to work in all weather conditions and become an expert at repetitive tasks.
– Participate in all required safety training and safety meetings. Follow safety procedures and report any hazards, incidents, or injuries as required by company policy and legislation.
Landscape Maintenance Crew Lead
– Train and supervise groundskeeping crew.
– Assist foreman in all aspects of site and crew management.
– Determine requirements for staff, tools, equipment and materials for projects alongside the foreman.
– Train and teach crew members on various maintenance and safety skills.
– Operate and maintain various tools and small equipment.
– Begin understanding plant material identification.
– Start learning about fertilization and pesticide application.
– In addition to fulfilling technician responsibilities, you will lead daily toolbox talks, monitor and promote public and worker safety on site, and ensure proper reporting of any safety concerns or incidents.
